A Man who fell into the ocean claims he was ‘saved by a seal’
Scott Thompson fell into the Santa Barbara Channel, near the city and off the coast of California,
last month on a warm evening, wearing only shorts and a T-shirt.
Scott tripped and fell overboard into the cold water, boat still in gear.
He said the terrifying ordeal happened in the middle of the night, miles away from dry land.
As he struggled in the cold water a friendly harbor seal showed up.
After about five exhausting hours in the water, he was able to reach an oil platform and pull himself up to safety.
“The crew took it from there and got Scott the medical attention he desperately needed,”
After his rescue, Thompson spent the night in the hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia and dehydration. Other than that, he walked away with only “cuts, slices and bruises.”
It has happened before:
Almost 20 years ago, Kevin Hines jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge and was saved when a sea lion helped him to shore.
