Vergara: I love money

Sofía Vergara isn’t “ashamed” to admit she is obsessed with money.

The Modern Family actress is rumored to have made $30 million last year, with her show salary bolstered by her deals with the likes of Pepsi and CoverGirl. She also has her own line of shapewear and has teamed up with shampoo company Head & Shoulders for an endorsement deal, with the star proud that the cheques keep rolling in.

“I’m not ashamed to say I love making money,” she told Glam Belleza Latina. “I like business, and the truth is I save way more than I spend. I invest. I plan for the future. I have a special eye for opportunities and work harder than anyone might expect. It is fun to shock people with my business ideas.”

The 41-year-old star portrays sexy and voluptuous Gloria in Modern Family, who over mispronounces words. Many people she meets expect Sofía to be just like her alter-ego and she enjoys proving them wrong.

“I think that the concept of being sexy and smart is difficult for many to grasp,” she claimed. “Most people are more comfortable with the notion of ‘sexy bimbo.’ And I have to admit that I’ve capitalized on that to negotiate a couple of times, when the ‘smart ones’ think I have no idea what I can deliver, and I end up costing them more.”

Sofía has a 21-year-old son called Manolo with her ex-husband Joe Gonzalez. Becoming a mother at a young age encouraged her to push herself as she wanted to be able to provide for her child.

She moved to Hollywood and went to great lengths to ensure she was successful, even dyeing her light hair brunette to get work.

“I wasn’t getting roles because I didn’t look, according to many casting directors and producers, ‘Latina enough.’ The reality is Latinos come in all colors, heights and flavors, but who was I to preach this stuff when I needed a job? My team and I decided to darken my hair to make it more in tune with my accent, and it worked,” she explained.

“Now that my hair is closer to its original color, I feel great. I don’t have to darken my roots all the time.”
