Keith Urban works hard on his marriage.
The country star is wed to actress Nicole Kidman and the couple share daughters Sunday, five, and two-and-a-half-year-old Faith.
According to Keith, his family life is like “a garden” that needs nurturing to thrive.
“Nic and I say, ‘Balance is never achieved; it’s just maintained,'” Keith told America’s People magazine.
“I’m a guy, so I’m not used to having to maintain anything. I’m used to achieving something, and good, that’s done, move on to the next thing. No, no, this marriage, this family, it’s a garden. It’s not fixed and then you move on; it’s maintained on a daily basis. I finally get that now.”
The 46-year-old says he recently realized the finite amount of time he has on this planet. It’s made him more conscious of living every moment to its fullest.
“Somewhere in the last couple of years, I’ve really grasped the concept of the brevity of time,” he explained. “It’s very, very fleeting. No matter how many years are ahead of us, it will all be gone very quickly. I don’t want to miss any of it.”
Nicole has also spoken about the importance of her marriage to Keith, calling him her “great love”. According to the actress, her relationship with Keith is the most real and adult one she’s ever had.
“I was so young,” Nicole told December’s Vanity Fair magazine about her first marriage to Tom Cruise. “And you know, with no disrespect to what I had with Tom, I’ve met my great love now.”
