Uma Thurman’s 19-month-old daughter is as strong as “Venus Williams”
The 43-year-old actress has Rosalind with her partner Arpad Busson and also has 15-year-old daughter Maya and son Levon, 11, with her ex-husband Ethan Hawke.
She is thoroughly enjoying being an older mother, even if her toddler daughter has a penchant for scratching her.
“She got me here, here and here,” she pointed to her face. “She has the strength of [powerful tennis star] Venus Williams.”
Uma wasn’t prepared for how moving she would find having a baby later in life. She thought she knew everything possible about parenting thanks to her older kids, but has been deeply affected by the new addition to her family.
“I was so surprised at how many things seemed new again,” she told Net-a-Porter’s The Edit. “You’re a different person. When you have a child in the early side of your child-bearing years – which for a New Yorker means there’s still a two in front of your age, as opposed to a three or a four – you’re changing so much as a person; you’re so volatile. You think you’re grown up, but you’re a child yourself. It’s different to be at a point in your life where it’s just… Stunning. Having a child is like having your heart get out of your ribcage and walk around the room. But then your heart gets car keys – and lipstick.”
Uma took some time out from her career after having Rosalind, although she can been seen in Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac movies. She only has a small part, but has been praised for her commanding portrayal of a woman who confronts her husband over his infidelity.
The star didn’t only take time out for her family. She needs to feel challenged and worries her work becomes stale if it isn’t testing her.
Although she is pleased to be on the big screen again, Uma hinted she has no interest in acting full time anymore.
“I doubt that [acting] will be terribly full-time, if only because it’s not very easy to find enough material. So I’m just finding my way. I don’t want to do things just for the sake of being busy. I’m taking my time to figure that out,” she explained.
