Robin Thicke inspired an ad ruled “too sexual” for broadcast in the UK.
The singer’s Blurred Lines music video was banned from YouTube earlier this year for its graphic content, which included models wearing little more than nude thongs while bopping around to the song.
Beats Electronics International spoofed the clip in a new advert selling its Beats Pill speakers.
BBC News reports the Advertising Standards Authority has now banned the commercial from airing before 7.30pm after receiving 97 complaints.
The women who feature in the Beats ad are not nude but dance around in short shorts and cropped shirts. One woman is also depicted on her hands and knees with a Beats Pill positioned on her back, a shot the ASA specifically pointed out as being “distasteful”, according to BBC.
Beats Electronics defended the ad, insisting it featured “strong, playful images that most viewers would not see as having any sexual connotation”.
Robin teamed up with Pharrell Williams and T.I. on the original track and video.
Despite the negative reception surrounding the collaboration, Robin recently said he would like to record a sequel.
“I would love to do it again and I’m sure we will,” he told Billboard last month.
“It’s one of those catch 22s where you want to repeat that success but you don’t want to mess with the first time.”
