Ryan Reynolds has a “connection” with Michael J. Fox.
The 37-year-old actor is full of praise for the Hollywood legend, revealing they share a special bond. Ryan and Michael were both raised in Vancouver, Canada, and have plenty of other things in common too.
“We have that connection – we’re all from the same part of the world,” he told People at the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Benefit in New York.
Ryan became friends with Michael and his family around five years ago, when the pair teamed up to fight against Parkinson’s disease. Michael was diagnosed with the disease in 1991, while Ryan’s father also has the condition.
Ryan is in awe of everything Michael has achieved and his continued career success. The 52-year-old has made a return to the small screen for The Michael J. Fox Show – a new series loosely based on his life.
“He’s incredible in everything that he does, from the foundation to his work to his work ethic,” Ryan said. “There’s a reason why everyone likes this guy so much – he’s just unsinkable.”
Ryan also spoke about his father’s health and how grateful he is for the support that Michael’s foundation offers.
“My dad’s hanging in there. Like so many people who are afflicted with this disease, they have an incredible resource in this foundation… They also have a reason for hope,” he added.
