Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly hoping to get Mel Gibson involved in a new Avengers movie.
Mel’s 2010 break-up with his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva was acrimonious, with recordings of the star using offensive language made public. They caused outrage and he was dropped by his agency, resulting in his career declining. His friend Jodie Foster stood by him and gave him a role in her film The Beaver and now Robert is hoping to get both stars involved in one of his future projects.
“Robert is raising eyebrows with his efforts on behalf of his long-time best pals Jodie Foster and Mel Gibson,” a source told RadarOnline.
“He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films. It’s been a long-time dream of Robert’s to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he’s achieved in recent years.”
Robert’s portrayal of superhero Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel movies has seen his star soar over the last few years. He has a five-year deal with Marvel, which will apparently see him starring in two more Avengers movies. The first of the franchise was released in 2012 and also starred Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans.
Although bosses are apparently fine with the Jodie coming on-board, feelings surrounding Mel are different. He was arrested for Driving Under the Influence in 2006 and made anti-Semitic remarks to the arresting officer.
“Marvel is run by one of the richest and most prominent Israeli businessmen in Hollywood, and you can be sure even if Robert got down on his knees and begged, there’s no place for Mel in the Marvel films,” the insider claimed.
Robert reportedly plans to continue campaigning for Mel to work alongside him.
“Robert is very big into working with his friends. Ashley Hamilton and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black both credit him with making the final push to get them hired,” the insider said.

Mel Gibson “truly needs help”, according to Joe Eszterhas.
The American actor briefly teamed up with the screenwriter in 2009 to develop a script Joe had written.
However, things soon turned bitter when Mel rejected the piece. The two men then entered into a war of words, with Joe releasing a tape of the 57-year-old star shouting at him in his own home.
Mel’s behavior has landed him in the headlines before. He has been arrested for DUI several times and tapes allegedly of him using racial slurs when arguing with his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva also came to light.
Joe believes Mel is still in need of aid to overcome his issues and worries about those who interact with him.
“Mel truly needs help. Something is very wrong,” Joe sighed to British newspaper The Guardian. “Unless something is done, unless someone intervenes, terrible things are going to happen, either to Mel or the people around him. I felt I had to do something about it. But the upshot is the script is in his drawer. He’s probably still abusing people.”
Joe claims he released the tape because he felt dismissed by Mel. Joe was extremely proud of his script and believes the Braveheart star was overly critical of his hard work.
“Had I not gone public with Mel, and not revealed any of this to the world, he would have just said, ‘Oh, he wrote a terrible script.’ And I didn’t; I wrote a really good script, and I put my heart and soul into it,” Joe continued.
“Mel would have just f**ked it over and that would have been the ball game. Because I loved the script and that he could simply bury me as he tried to do on the Leno [TV talk] show, it was my way of fighting for my writing and my story and my vision.”

Mel Gibson reportedly wants to know why cops are “harassing” him.
The Australian actor has become synonymous with angry outbursts to those working in law enforcement and racist slurs.
The latest outburst happened on Saturday at around 1am when Mel failed to produce his driving license when prompted by police, reports TMZ.
“Why are you harassing me?” Mel is said to have demanded.
In response the cops asked why he was screaming.
There was no reason to suspect Mel was drinking a police source told TMZ. But that apparently didn’t stop his anger rising.
“I have had problems with you Lost Hills [Malibu] deputies in the past,” Mel apparently ranted.
The issue was quickly resolved and Mel drove off with a warning.
He was reportedly pulled over at a DUI checkpoint on the Pacific Coast Highway, which is the same road where he was famously charged for Driving Under the Influence in 2006, and proceeded to go on an anti-Semitic tirade.
It was also claimed in 2010 that Mel had been recorded using a number of racist slurs when having an argument with then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
In a tape obtained by RadarOnline it is claimed the man’s voice is that of Mel’s.
“You’re an embarrassment to me. You look like a f**king pig in heat and if you get raped by a pack of n****** it will be your fault,” the man on the recording shouts.
“How dare you act like such a b***h when I have been so f**king nice. I am going to come and burn the f**king house down… but you will blow me first.”
