Joseph Gordon-Levitt has only made it through one episode of Jersey Shore.
In his latest movie Don Jon, Joseph stars as a New Jersey guy who develops unrealistic ideas about women after watching porn. His character Jon has gelled hair and bulging biceps, leading to comparisons between him and the cast of reality TV show Jersey Shore. The series followed stars such as Pauly D and Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino as they got drunk and met women.
“I had not watched Jersey Shore. I have since watched one episode. I couldn’t really get through more than one though,” Joseph laughed to British magazine Heat.
“I certainly don’t watch [porn] like the character does. I won’t say I’ve never watched it. But, personally, I’ve been much more heavily influenced by romantic movies than pornography.”
Joseph also directed the release, which stars Scarlett Johansson as a women obsessed with romantic fiction. The actor liked the juxtaposition of the two characters and says his family are also proud of the movie’s message.
“My mom really got why I made the movie, and got what I was trying to say. I think a lot of what’s in the movie is stuff that she taught me. She was very active in the feminist movement in the ’60s and ’70s. I think she, particularly, made me aware of how women are objectified in movies and television,” he said.
