Snooki opens up about anorexia

Snooki revisited her painful past with anorexia on Dancing with the Stars.

The former Jersey Shore favorite took the stage with dance partner Sasha Farber on Monday night and cameras went behind-the-scenes to capture their emotional rehearsal time.

The pair’s cheerleader-themed jive brought up memories for the star she would rather not recall.

“It was a really, really bad time for me,” she shared of her time as a high school cheerleader battling the eating disorder.

Snooki then promised herself she would make “positive new memories” on the celebrity competition show.

The judges gave their seal of approval, with guest panelist Julianne Hough dubbing Snooki her “little nugget” and insisting she “loved” the star’s performance.

Snooki has shared her struggles with food in the past and dedicated herself to healthy living after the birth of her son.

The 25-year-old, real name Nicole Polizzi, shares 13-month-old Lorenzo with fiancé Jionni LaValle and last April slammed rumors she had relapsed.

“I go to the gym five days a week and I eat healthy,” she told Us Weekly. “I eat chicken, I eat salads, I eat vegetables… one day a week I have my ice cream and my chips – but the next day I go even harder at the gym.”

The pint-sized star also recently revealed she has been battling illness while competing.

In a post for People.com Monday, Snooki shared that frequent travel from her native New Jersey has compromised her health.

“I had a terrible week in practice. I fly out to L.A. every Sunday for the show and leave on the red-eye after the show Monday night because I can’t be away from my son,” Snooki wrote.

“Doing that for four weeks straight has definitely taken a toll on my body and I had a fever and was run down all week.”

The hard work paid off. Snooki received a 24 out of 30 possible points for her jive, keeping her in the competition for another week.

Other stars competing for the coveted Mirror Ball trophy include Glee star Amber Riley, Christina Milian, Elizabeth Berkley Lauren, Leah Remini, Brant Daugherty, Bill Engvall and actor Corbin Bleu.
