Simon Cowell has reportedly given his son the name Eric Philip Cowell.
Eric is in honor of his late father, who died of a heart attack in 1999, while Philip is for his friend Sir Philip Green, the British CEO of the Arcadia Group.
Simon’s first child with girlfriend Lauren Silverman was born in New York on Friday, weighing 6lbs 7oz.
“Simon wanted to pay proper tribute to the influence of his late father in his life,” a source told UK newspaper The Mirror.
“Eric Philip is clearly a very proper and respectful tribute to the man. But there’s no doubt he also wanted to pay some kind of tribute to another Philip who has been a major inspiration in his life, Sir Philip Green. It’s tremendous he’s been able to pay respect to two different male role models with his baby son’s birth.”
Simon was apparently in the UK when Lauren went into labor, and rushed over to be by her side as soon as he could.
The media mogul’s mother Julie Brett, 87, was said to be deeply moved at the tribute to her late husband.
“It was an incredible and emotional day. Simon was by Lauren’s side the entire time from when he arrived. He admitted he was a little nervous before but when it came to it he was completely natural,” the source added.
Simon’s long-time friend Sinitta indicated via her Twitter account that she the godmother to baby Eric.
“Sitting in. Fancu bar in london with a very handsome man waitinf to hear my God son has been born, bit tipsy, but not ruined..too late to fly (sic),” she wrote.
