Simon Cowell is refusing to comment on his alleged love child because there are too many “feelings involved”.
The media and music mogul spoke out while promoting the next season of The X Factor USA at the Television Critics Association in Beverly Hills on Thursday.
News broke this week that he has impregnated Lauren Silverman, 36, the wife of his good friend Andrew Silverman.
“There are a lot of things I will eventually clear up when the time is right, but I really have to be sensitive because there’s a lot of people’s feelings involved here,” he told People magazine.
Earlier in the day he avoided questions, about the woman who is ten weeks along, at the event by cracking jokes.
Simon, 53, was joined on a panel by fellow talent show judges Demi Lovato, Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio.
“I haven’t read the newspapers,” he told press. “Unfortunately at this moment I have to keep it private.”
Andrew Silverman reportedly filed divorce papers in New York listing “adultery” as the reason for parting ways.
He is determined to keep mum on the situation to protect his “top priority”, his seven-year-old son Adam “while working to resolve all outstanding issues with my wife.”
Simon may be required to take the stand in court as a battle ensues. He could also be forced to take a DNA test to determine the paternity of the baby.
“It is an unbelievable story of betrayal. It is a sad story and a tragic story,” Andrew’s brother Alexander told British newspaper the Daily Mirror.
Simon has hired successful Los Angeles lawyer Marty Singer to represent him in as “his worst ¬nightmare come true”.
“The pregnancy has taken him by surprise,” a source said. “Simon thought this was a casual relationship. The pregnancy was not planned.”
