Shiri Appleby says Lena Dunham is everybody’s “biggest cheerleader”.

The actress is best known for her leading role as Liz Parker in the television series Roswell.

Shiri has also appeared on hit HBO series Girls, which is created by and stars Lena.

The 34-year-old brunette has gushed about working alongside the talented actress.

“She’s incredible. She makes you feel like every choice you’re making as an actor is the right choice. She’s the biggest cheerleader. She gives you that little bit of direction that will change your entire performance without making you feel like you’ve ever done something wrong,” she gushed in an interview with Parade.

“She hires good actors and just lets them do their thing. It takes so much confidence. It’s really amazing to me that she’s 27 and she has that.”

Girls also stars Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Adam Driver. Shiri loved working with the cast as she found them all so encouraging.

“Oh my goodness. It’s so creative, so supportive. Everyone there is working at the highest level; they all know they are part of something special, so there is a tremendous amount of respect and professionalism on set,” she explained.

“Like shooting a racy scene with Adam [Driver] — I’ve never felt more comfortable on set. Everyone there is just treated it with so much respect and they made sure it was a very safe environment. It’s one of those dream jobs.”

Shiri is a big fan of female-centerd shows including Felicity and Ally McBeal.

She added: “I think it’s really wonderful to watch girls in the lead, and the reason I think Lena is so fantastic is because she’s saying things that you’re not expecting somebody to say. We get so used to hearing what we think we’re supposed to hear and she’s saying everything else.”
