Charlie Sheen has slammed rumours Selma Blair was sacked from Anger Management over their relationship.
The Sweetest Thing actress starred alongside the 48-year-old actor in his hit TV show as therapist Kate up until earlier this year.
It was reported Selma was dropped from the programme via an explicit text when Charlie threatened to quit if she remained in the cast. The pair are said to have argued after Selma questioned his work ethic on the comedy series and accused him of being late.
However Charlie insists it was the producers’ decision to let her go as audiences complained the show wasn’t interesting enough.
Viewers apparently compared his character Charles Goodson to his previous ladies man alter ego Charlie Harper in Two and a Half Men, which he was fired from in 2011.
“One of our primary characters, Selma Blair playing Kate, was written out because it was not about our relationship,” Charlie told talk show host Jay Leno. “The problem was too many people were still excited about the Two and a Half character, and thought the Anger Management character was a little dull. That is not the case anymore. “
Charlie did promise the audience would see Charles become more humorous as he comes to terms with the departure of Kate. The characters became friends with benefits and soon developed feelings for one another.
“She leaves, and I start circling the drain. So it’s really fun to watch and hella fun to play,” the actor hinted.
Charlie kept his cool when the host asked about his inspiration behind the show.
Smirking as he spoke, he joked: “It’s a mystery. It just falls out of the sky. It’s amazing.”
