Zac Efron’s Hairspray director has reportedly offered to be his sober coach.
The 26-year-old actor is understood to have completed two rehab stints last year, although he has never confirmed that or spoken about why he apparently sought help.
Following reports he was involved in a fight in a dubious area of Los Angeles last week, many have expressed concern for Zac. Now Adam Shankman, who helmed the star’s 2007 release Hairspray, has reportedly reached out to him. Adam went to rehab in December and apparently thinks he will be able to support Zac and offer him some words of wisdom.
“Since they’ve been friends for years, Adam has reached out to Zac and is trying to get him into the same program he completed at Passages in Malibu. He’s even offered to be Zac’s sober coach!” an insider told RadarOnline.
“Adam really believes in Passages and just wants to see Zac get back into good health.”
The director has a good friendship with Zac and thinks he could go on to massive things in Hollywood if he keeps his lifestyle in check.
“If anyone knows what’s going on with Zac, it’s Adam,” the insider said.
Last week it was reported that Zac had claimed he and his bodyguard became stranded in downtown Los Angeles after they ran out of gas. A scuffle broke out between them and some homeless people, although no charges were brought. It was the second unusual incident the star was involved in, after he broke his jaw last year having slipped in a puddle.
The handsome star appeared relaxed and happy at last month’s Academy Awards and has been busy promoting his movies That Awkward Moment and Neighbors.
