Shailene Woodley is happy her “boobs shrank” because she no longer has to wear a bra.
The 22-year-old actress bulked up her body to play Tris in Divergent and shortly after that project was wrapped she lost a significant amount of weight for her part as an ill teenager in The Fault in Our Stars.
Undergoing major physical transformation doesn’t phase Shailene.
“I’m in a place where I feel healthier than I’ve ever been, and my body is exactly where it wants to be. I feel like I’m a woman,” she told InStyle magazine.
“My boobs shrank. No one tells you that when you lose weight. No bra, no problem!”
In her teenage years Shailene wore a back brace to treat scoliosis, a medical condition in which the spine is shaped like the letter “S”.
And she learned then not to batter herself over whatever physical metamorphosis she may be undergoing.
“My friends and I named my brace Casey. I took it off to eat, to go on dates, and to shower. It was uncomfortable,” the star recalled. “But I thought, ‘I can complain, or I can embrace it, literally, and move on.'”
Shailene portrays character Hazel, a teenager hooked up to an oxygen tank who falls in love with an athlete after meeting him at a cancer support group, in The Fault in Our Stars.
She found the fictional persona’s courage incredibly moving.
“It changed my whole life and put things in perspective. I realized I was good at being outwardly positive because that’s how I am by nature. But internally? I was so mean to myself,” Shailene explained.
“Realizing I needed to make a shift was a big moment for me. ‘F**k you, insecurity. F**k you, lack of confidence!’”
