Salma Hayek hopes to teach women to “forge their own path”.
The 47-year-old actress gave birth to her and her husband François-Henri Pinault’s daughter Valentina in 2007. She is determined to show the tot she can achieve whatever she wants, which is why she got involved with the female empowerment project Chime For Change.
“Listen to her intuition and heart, and forge her own path forward. When you believe in your own abilities, the unexpected choices are often the most rewarding,” she told British magazine Cosmopolitan, when asked what advice she’d give young women these days.
One of the reasons Salma is happy to be connected to Chime For Change is because of Valentina. She has grand ideas of the kind of place she wants the child to live.
“I want my daughter to grow up in a world that values education, health and justice for all women,” she said. “I plan to teach her the importance of helping others, and inspire her curiosity to learn and grow.”
The actress hopes her work, and that of other major stars such as Gucci’s Frida Giannini and Beyoncé Knowles, will prove a turning point in the world. She is pleased things are starting to change and believes before long there will be women employed in top jobs all over the place.
“I encounter many powerful women in Hollywood. My hope is that young girls today do not have to look far to see strong female role models, whether in Hollywood, business, government, technology, or at home raising their children,” she said.
