Rosario Dawson was so scared of getting pregnant that she waited until she was 20 to have sex.
The 34-year-old actress says that although she’s played many sexually liberated characters on the big screen, becoming a teenage mom was one of her big fears.
When, at 15, she starred in her first movie Kids, a controversial film based on an HIV positive teenager spreading the disease to girls in New York, Rosario found she couldn’t relate to her sexually active character.
“I didn’t even have sex until I was 20. My mom was a teenage mom, I was deathly afraid of being a teenage mom.
“My dad had told me to go downstairs and get discovered because they were shooting this commercial on the block, so I was kind of hanging out and loitering. I got spotted on the street. I auditioned. I worked on it for four days,” she told HuffPost Live.
Rosario split from Oscar winning British director Danny Boyle earlier this year, after starring in his tense crime thriller Trance.
In the movie Rosario plays a hypnotherapist hired by a gang of criminals to help recover a lost painting.
Rosario wasn’t shy about being completely naked on screen for a graphic sex scene with leading man James McAvoy
“Everyone [on set] is averting their eyes, your wardrobe for the day is nothing, there’s just a robe in your dressing robe. You’re looking over at your lead actor who always looks you in the eye when you’re doing these remarkable scenes.
“But for today [during the naked scenes] he’s looking at your shoulder or at the spot on the wall far away so as not to be inappropriate,” she laughed to British Marie Claire.
