Julia Roberts reportedly broke down in tears at last night’s Academy Awards.
The 46-year-old was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in August: Osage County, but lost out to Lupita Nyong’o.
It wasn’t Julia’s disappointment that lead to the tears, but Bette Midler’s performance of Wind Beneath My Wings during the In Memoriam segment of the ceremony.
According to sources at the event, Julia was watching Bette singing her classic ballad about a deceased loved one on a monitor in the lounge outside the auditorium when she broke down in tears.
“This song always makes me cry, but I’m just overwhelmed with emotions this month,” Julia reportedly told the group she was with, an eyewitness revealed to US Weekly magazine.
The actress, who won an Oscar back in 2000 for her performance in Erin Brockovich, has had a distressing time in her personal life recently, after her half-sister died early last month.
Nancy Motes was found dead after a suspected overdose at the age of only 37.
Julia was comforted by friends including her agent and this year’s Best Actress winner Cate Blanchett and her husband Andrew Upton.
The mood lifted for the group however, when Cate stepped up to receive her award.
The Australian Blue Jasmine actress name checked Julia during her speech, saying, “Hash Tag Suck It!”
Cate went on to give a vague explanation of the comment backstage.
“It happened in the bar with Ms. Roberts, and that’s all I am prepared to say,” she said.
