Rachel Bilson is desperate to “play home” to The O.C.
The actress portrayed Summer Roberts in the US TV show about the lives of a wealthy group of young people in Newport Beach, Orange County, California. It aired between 2003 and 2007 and also starred Mischa Barton, Adam Brody and Ben McKenzie, but it’s only Rachel who is keen to celebrate the show.
“I get it to a certain extent, but it’s like, come on, it’s been ten years, and it was such a big thing in all of our lives,” she told MTV News. “It would be cool to pay homage to it in some way.”
One of the reasons Rachel would like to reboot the show is because she loved Summer so much. She will always have a soft spot for the character, who remains one of the favorite she has ever played.
“She’s just so carefree,” Rachel said. “She just does not give a you-know-what – you know what I’m saying? I really respect that. She seems cool. She seems like someone you’d want to hang out with.”
The O.C. celebrated its tenth anniversary last summer and many fans hopes it would be marked some way by the cast.
Mischa, who portrayed Marissa Cooper, was asked about it at the time and admitted she wasn’t interested in the idea.
“You know – never say never,” she told Us Weekly. “But, I think things have to feel right, and it doesn’t feel right. You can’t say that you feel one way or another about things, but before The O.C. I was on track to do some great films, as well, and one thing happens, and then I got this mega stardom all from this show. It is what it is, but I’m not looking to get sucked back into the limelight of it.”
In 2009 Mischa was put under an involuntary 5150 hold, used when people are deemed a danger to themselves or others. Last year she admitted having a “full-on breakdown” and claimed she struggled to deal with the fame she received after appearing in the show.
