R. Kelly: Chris Brown is like Jesus

R. Kelly has compared Chris Brown to Martin Luther King and Jesus.

The 46-year-old singer has been marred by controversy during his career, with allegations of relationships with young girls. He wed Aaliyah when she was just 15 and in 2008 was found not guilty of child pornography charges.

Chris’ career has also been problematic – in 2009 he assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna and he is currently receiving anger management treatment in court-ordered rehab.

Kelly sees many parallels between them and is tired of people being negative about the 24-year-old star.

“I only feel sorry for weak people. And mostly what I’ve come to find is that the weak people are the ones that are the haters. The ones that’s talking about Chris Brown, or R. Kelly, or anybody that’s successful? I feel sorry for them, not Chris Brown, because he’s obviously one strong individual to be able to do what he’s done. He got knocked down a little bit and he climbed up. You know, that sounds like [boxer Muhammad] Ali to me. That sounds like [civil rights activist] Martin Luther King to me. That sounds like a lot of the greats that have walked this earth. It even sounds a little bit like Jesus to me,” he told British newspaper The Guardian.

“I’m not saying that Chris Brown is Jesus or R. Kelly is Jesus. But Jesus is the No 1 inspirer of someone being knocked down and rising again.”

Kelly credits his fans with getting him through his darkest hours. Their unwavering support meant a great deal to him and he sees their relationship as a marriage, as they never give up on each other.

He continues to write tracks to please his fans, although he also feels it is his duty to share his lyrics with the world.

“[My songwriting gift is] like taekwondo – you have to master it,” he said.

“I’m in love with music and I’m pregnant by it. It’s like having twins. Or triplets. Or eight-lets!”

The singer also likened his career to that of a superhero, using one of the metaphors which are such a hit with his admirers. Just like Spider-Man, Kelly knows how and when to unleash the full force of his talent.

“I’ve pretty much got a leash on it and I know how to walk it – it’s not a stray dog,” he said. “It’s no different to being Spider-Man. He knows when to spray that web. He ain’t gonna spray it at some old lady, walking down the street with her groceries in her hand! He’s going to spray it at the guy who’s trying to take the purse off her. That’s what I’m like – I know what to do and when to do it.”
