Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have named Zara Phillips one of Prince George’s godparents.
The royal couple welcomed their first child in July and the baby is due to be christened later today.
One of the prince’s godparents is Zara, who is Prince William’s cousin and wife of former England rugby player Mike Tindall.
Oliver Baker, who attended the University of St. Andrews with the couple, had been named as another along with William’s late mother Princess Diana’s close friend Julia Samuel.
Godmother Emilia Jardine-Paterson attended Marlborough College with the duchess, while godfather Earl Hugh Grosvenor is the son of the Duke of Westminster.
Lastly there is Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, the couple’s private secretary, and William’s childhood friend William van Cutsem.
The ceremony is set to take place at St. James’s Palace in London and will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
William and Catherine are expected to be joined by Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Cambridge’s parents Carole and Michael Middleton, along with her siblings James and Pippa, are also thought to be in attendance at the Chapel Royal.
The venue has great importance to the family. It was where Duchess Catherine was confirmed into the Church of England before her wedding in 2011 and also the resting place for William and Harry’s mother Princess Diana before her funeral in 1997.
Royal author Penny Junor has revealed the couple wish to keep things quiet for the special occasion with as little media attention as possible.
“I think they want this to be a private, family, normal kind of event,” Penny told the BBC. “I don’t think they want it to be overly royal, overly posh or overly formal. They just want to get their child christened.”
