Jeremy Piven insists he’s “viciously boring”.
The 48-year-old actor shot to fame as fast-talking agent Ari Gold on hit US series Entourage but he doesn’t get the fanfare that has followed him off set.
“The reality is that I couldn’t be further from Ari Gold. He is a Hollywood shark whose focus is money. I’m a stage actor from Chicago,” Jeremy told Mr. Porter’s magazine.
“Jeremy Piven would bore Ari Gold to tears. I have done 20 years of yoga with meditation. I’m viciously boring.”
The actor said he has been typecast since taking on the character. Two years after the comedy drama has ended, he’s still getting calls for similar parts.
“…Once you play a role that has massive speeches and your characters are verbal stunt pilots, then you’re suddenly that go-to guy,” he explained.
“The irony is that the things closest to me I haven’t even played yet.”
Jeremy is currently reprising his title role in ITV drama Mr. Selfridge.
The actor said he’s enjoying being back on the London set to film the second season because he feels “free to experiment” when he’s in the UK.
“In the States they assume you’re being pretentious or trying to draw attention to yourself when you are just having fun with clothes,” he mused.
Season two of Mr. Selfridge is scheduled to premiere in 2014.
