Penélope Cruz thinks motherhood has made her a more “peaceful” person.
The 39-year-old actress shares son Leonardo, two, and daughter Luna, five-months, with her actor husband Javier Bardem.
Penélope admits she experienced a bit of a personal crisis before having her little ones.
“I came home one day wondering about my own life because all I was doing was waking up, going to a trailer on a set and feeding all these other characters,” she told WSJ Magazine.
“I didn’t have the peaceful feeling I have now.”
Oscar-winner Penélope is very aware of how life in the spotlight could impact her family.
And the star doesn’t like to speak publicly about her celebrity beau Javier or their children.
“As much as I love talking about him, I try not to do it in interviews. That’s when the lion comes out,” Penélope laughed.
“I try not to talk about them during interviews at all. But I will say, I feel so lucky and so grateful because this—parenting—is the best thing in the world.”
In fact the stunning thespian takes motherhood so seriously she has been referencing the Resources for Infant Educarers Manual by Magda Gerber for tips.
And she agrees with the Gerber philosophy that parents should treat “infants and young children as equal members in relationships”.
“I love it,” Penélope gushed.
“Brilliant. Really loving and clever about communication and respect from day one. Children perceive everything. They are really smart.”
