Patrick Dempsey admits he’s a big softy
The 47-year-old Grey’s Anatomy star, who plays TV heartthrob Dr. Derek Shepherd, confesses he’s emotional and his three children often make him cry.
“I’m moved to tears quite a bit. I’m a big crier,” he told People magazine.
“Sometimes your kids say something and it’s so amazing with insight. Their wisdom, whether they realize it or not – there’s something so beautiful in that.”
Patrick shares 11-year-old daughter Tallulah and six-year-old twins Sullivan and Darby with his wife of 14 years, Jillian.
The actor often gushes about his family, and has insisted that they are the best things in his life. When previously asked what keeps him grounded he told Britain’s Red magazine:
“My children, who teach me patience and who challenge me. And my wife, who puts up with me – for which I’m completely amazed.”
While his family life is the actor’s first love he admits there’s a close second.
Patrick is an avid motor racing fan and finds making laps around the track helps clear his head.
“Sometimes at the race track when you’re racing and you really put a lap together, it’s pretty blissful. It’s a controlled adrenaline and an incredible physical workout,” he told People.
Finding time to enjoy his hobby may prove difficult for the star who currently has two films in pre-production for release next year.
Patrick is set to star in forthcoming comedy Wonderful Tonight as well as Gabriel Schmidt’s family drama Mission: S.O.P., co-starring Tom Arnold and Dennis Rodman.
