Nicole Kidman made a “conscious” decision to change her life.
The actress is happily married to Keith Urban and together they raise daughters Sunday and Faith. Prior to this she was married to Tom Cruise, but their union ended in 2001. Afterwards, she tried hard to turn things around.
“It was a very deep relationship and there were periods of extreme loneliness afterwards. My shyness got even worse. But it made me stronger,” she admitted to German magazine Meins.
“I feel safe and happy on our ranch [where she lives with her family]. I made a conscious effort to turn my life around. I had to fight hard for it, to protect my private life.”
Nicole, 46, takes on the role of Grace Kelly in Grace of Monaco, which will open this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The Oscar winner is pleased that women are on their way to getting the recognition they deserve in Hollywood.
“The industry used to be even more dominated by men,” she mused. “The good thing is that we women really support each other. But we need to stick together even more. This doesn’t mean that we hate men, but we really need this camaraderie between women.”
As well as working on getting herself through tough times and fighting for equality in the movie industry, Nicole has also tried hard to embrace her looks. The star naturally has very curly hair, which it’s taken her a while to accept.
“I almost never straighten it anymore; I let it go curly and wild. It’s taken me 40-something years but I embrace the curl,” she told InStyle magazine.
“My littlest daughter has the same hair. She likes it when my hair is curly so I wear it for her.”
