Naya Rivera and her Glee castmembers are “trying to do good work” despite their grief.
Cory Monteith, who played character Finn Hudson on the program since its 2009 debut, passed away from a heroin and alcohol overdose in July.
The cast has returned to set to begin filming new episodes and Naya has noticed a distinct change in the way they all interact.
The star is very aware of the void that exists without Cory’s presence, but Naya is proud of how she and her colleagues are powering through their pain.
“[We’re] definitely taking it day by day,” she explained to Extra.
“I would say that something is definitely missing, and you can feel the shift, but I think that everybody’s really just leaning on each other and trying to do good work. I think that’s the most important.”
Cory’s girlfriend and Glee co-star Lea Michele braved the red carpet with a smile on her face at the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night.
She later took the stage to accept the award for Choice TV Actress: Comedy with her castmates Amber Riley, Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale standing behind her in a show of solidarity.
Lea dedicated the trophy to her late love in a tearful speech.
“Not that I had any doubt before, but you guys are most certainly the greatest fans in the world and I wanted to dedicate this award to Cory,” she said.
“For all of you out there who loved and admired Cory as much as I did, I promise that with your love we’re going to get through this together.
“He was very special to me and also to the world. We were very lucky to witness his incredible talent, his handsome smile, and his beautiful beautiful heart. So whether you knew him personally or just as Finn Hudson, Cory reached out and he became a part of all of our hearts and that’s where he will stay forever. So thank you guys so much. Thank you.”
