Naya Rivera says Glee is not the same without Cory Monteith.
The 26-year-old actress was devastated when Cory died in July 2013. And Naya reveals the whole cast and crew of the US TV show are still trying to heal after his loss.
“We’re definitely taking it day by day. Everybody’s really just leaning on each other and trying to do good work,” she tells Latina magazine.
Cory passed away of a heroin and alcohol overdose aged 31.
Naya also opens up about her relationship with rapper Big Sean, which she has never attempted to hide.
“We know so many who are in the public eye dating somebody, and they’re going in through back entrances and won’t make eye contact with each other. That’s just not us,” she said.
Naya’s confidence in herself is no doubt inspired by her idol Jennifer Lopez, who she looks to for guidance.
“It’s insane how gorgeous she is. Jennifer Lopez is a perfect example of what it means to be a mogul and have longevity, but still have people like you. She can do this until she chooses not to anymore. I hope I can say that one day,” she gushed.
Like Jennifer, Naya doesn’t feel held back by any stereotypes or limitations. Naya’s character on Glee, Santana Lopez, is a lesbian and Naya is very proud of how she has portrayed her.
“When people look at me, I genuinely think they don’t see me as anything other than Naya which is crazy and so cool. I feel like I’ve gotten to a place where I have transcended color lines and it’s a big testament to playing a lesbian character on TV because everyone’s so accepting of everything and I think that’s beautiful,” she said.
