Julianne Moore is “terrified” of pretty much everything apart from being in front of the camera.
The actress has no problem portraying seemingly scary events in movies, but in real life it’s a different matter. There are certain things she can’t see herself ever doing as they are so petrifying.
“I’m not scared of many things in front of the camera. Everywhere else, yes, I’m terrified. But acting is just pretending and you are exploring feelings in a safe environment,” she told British newspaper Metro.
“For me, something frightening would be going deep-sea diving or jumping out of a plane, or even diving off a high board into a pool. I really don’t like that kind of thing.”
Getting the chance to explore different characters is one of the reasons Julianne loves her job. She may have been nominated for four Oscars, but she won’t allow herself to become complacent either. The 53-year-old star is aware she could stop winning parts at some point, so has made provision for that alongside her husband Bart Freundlich.
“As an actor, you live from job to job, though, and you have to be prepared for that,” she said.
“Not knowing when the next job is coming can be difficult, but we have learned to save money, just in case.”
The star doesn’t need to worry about her career just yet as she has landed a role in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2. She was thrilled to win the role and is in awe of the franchise’s main star Jennifer Lawrence.
“[The movies] have done well, yes, but they work hard, especially those young kids,” she marveled. “Jennifer Lawrence is so talented and so lovely. She has a real ability to connect with people. What she did in American Hustle is just remarkable.”
