Mischa Barton admits fame wasn’t what she “expected it to be”.
The 28-year-old actress has had a turbulent life since hitting the big time as Marissa Cooper in hit TV show The O.C., which wrapped up in 2007. Incidents which have occurred include being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, and driving without a valid license and being sectioned for two weeks in 2009 after being deemed a danger to herself and others.
Asked whether she regrets entering the limelight at such a young age, Mischa confessed she wouldn’t do it all again.
“Probably not,” she responded to British newspaper Metro. “It’s something I came so close to not doing. I had a really great thing with film. People say be grateful for what you have but it certainly not the kind of thing I was expecting it to be… I’ve kind of seen it all.”
The blonde actress continued to pass on some valuable advice for anyone going through a similar experience. She recalls feeling “depressed and overworked” during the time of her downfall.
“It’s tough. It’s really tough when you are young in this business,” she added. “People blow a lot of hot air at you. That’s the main thing. Keep your head on your shoulders – even when you think your head is on your shoulders, sometimes it isn’t!
“It’s just one of those things when you are growing under a microscope and changing and that evolution is human. That humanity aspect means flaws – which people don’t want to see.”
Luckily Mischa is now back in good health and has other ventures alongside her acting career. The star launched her own fashion range Mischa’s Place in 2011, which has gained popularity in London, UK, and is currently the face of electronic cigarette VAPESTICK’s new campaign.
