Minka Kelly “likes to get down and dirty” on the American football field.
The 33-year-old actress portrayed a cheerleader in US high school football drama Friday Night Lights for three years.
Although she was on the sidelines in the TV show, Minka reveals that in real life she finds being on the field way more exhilarating than cheering people on.
“I played in a girls’ powder-puff game during the FNL days,” Minka detailed to Marie Claire magazine. “I was the quarterback. The ball was snapped to me, and I jammed my finger! I think I’m a pretty tough girl—I like to get down and dirty. But I was like, ‘Man, I jammed my finger just catching the ball?’ I didn’t tell anyone and played through it.”
Minka confesses that she isn’t the best athlete out there.
Her spiral football throw needs work.
“[It] isn’t perfect,” she said.
“At times it still looks like a watermelon floating through the air.”
Minka and her girlfriends love hanging out together during American football season.
The girls prefer to yell at the TV pointing out bad referee calls over giving each other manicures and pedicures.
“I have a group of friends who always get together at each other’s houses on Sundays during football season,” Minka shared. “We cook, hang out, and watch the game. It’s a fun time of year.”
Minka depicts First Lady Jackie Kennedy Onassis in epic historical movie The Butler.
She is flattered to have such a pivotal role in the film and to be starring alongside the likes of Oprah Winfrey, Robin Williams and Forest Whitaker.
“I’m not worthy. I feel so lucky and grateful. I was like, ‘What am I doing here?!’ ” she gushed to People magazine previously.
The Butler is released in theatres this month.
