Miley victim of ‘terrible journalism’

Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke

Miley Cyrus’ critics are guilty of “s**t-shaming”, according to rapper Angel Haze.

The 20-year-old singer has been the subject of controversy since her MTV Video Music Awards performance last month, which saw Miley stripping down to flesh-toned underwear and “twerking” against Robin Thicke.

A recent op-ed piece published by the Washington Post linked sexually provocative behavior like Miley’s to an infamous 2012 rape case in which an incapacitated Steubenville, Ohio high school student was undressed and sexually assaulted by her classmates.

As E! News reports, Hell Could Freeze rapper Angel is outraged by the claim and urged journalists to regain some integrity by backing off Miley.

“Recently been asked about @MileyCyrus way too much. Was particularly perturbed by the whole washington post thing. Let me just vocalize how utterly f**king stupid I think it is for a national news publication to post that her dancing is why things like Steubenville happen,” Angel fumed.

“That is terrible journalism,” she added, ranting, “S**t shaming, and complete and total idiocy all at once. If @MileyCyrus wants to dance, let her. A female dancing doesn’t mean she’s ‘asking to be raped.’ Quite frankly, if she is not doing it on you, it is not for you… Women are allowed to not feel enslaved by any opinion that suggests that the display of any sort of sexuality is wrong,” she continued. “Die, you are what’s wrong with the world, it’s 2013.”

Angel’s remarks follow support from Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams, who have both applauded Miley’s attention-grabbing performance.

Miley has also defended the show and said critics are simply over-thinking it.

“I don’t pay attention to the negative because I’ve seen this play out, how many times have we seen this play out in pop music?” she told MTV.

“Madonna’s done it. Britney’s done it. VMA performance, anyone that performs. That’s what you’re looking for. You’re wanting to make history.”
