Michael Douglas urges fans not to take loved ones for granted.
The 69-year-old Behind the Candelabra star briefly split from his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, 44, last August.
And in hindsight, Michael realizes he lost sight of what was truly important to him.
“Sometimes we spend more efforts with people that are strangers in terms of making an impression than the person that’s closest to us,” he told ET special correspondent Gayle King. “And you just gotta remember not to take for granted that person that’s closest to you.”
Although speculation is rife the couple’s marriage is still on the rocks, Michael has confirmed their relationship has actually improved dramatically.
“We’re doing great thank you,” he said. “We’re very close and everything’s going great.”
In April the couple made their first red carpet appearance together since last summer and they appeared to be all smiles at the event.
Catherine and Michael have been married for nearly 14 years and they are parents to daughter Carys and son Dylan.
The couple have apparently been sharing their feelings on a daily basis in personal diaries, and this has is said to have helped them communicate better.
“They’ve been working on different ways to express feelings – including daily journals. They only show them to each other if things get bad – it’s a way of giving them an outlet,” a source revealed to British Grazia magazine previously.
