Meryl Streep never plans anything – including her pregnancies.
The Mamma Mia! star is married to sculptor Don Gummer and together they have children Henry, Mamie, Grace and Louisa.
She might have forged a successful career in movies, but the 64-year-old insists that’s not because she’s organized.
“I didn’t even plan my pregnancies. They just happened,” she smiled to German magazine Myway.
Meryl already has three Oscars under her belt and at last night’s Academy Awards she was nominated in the best actress category for her part in August: Osage County.
She lost out to Blue Jasmine’s Cate Blanchett, but the star still fully enjoys any chance to hit the red carpet for a ceremony.
“I’m nervous before award ceremonies, but I just can’t get enough of them!” she laughed.
She added that when it comes to such occasions she’s full of adrenaline and often can’t remember all of the evening afterwards.
Meryl’s nerves weren’t evident on the red carpet yesterday as she was snapped laughing in her black and white Lanvin gown.
It was her 18th nomination, which means she should be used to the attention by now.
But the actress recently joked it still caught her off guard.
“Because I’m so old news, you know,” she explained to talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, to which she and the audience cried out in dismay.
She was joined by her husband Don at the Oscars and revealed why she thinks the pair, who married in 1978, work so well.
“The secret to my marriage is understanding. It’s just a happy marriage, which has been going strong for 36 years now,” she said.
