Jenny McCarthy is leaving The View.
The actress and former Playboy model was announced as the latest co-host of journalist Barbara Walters’ award-winning chat show in July of last year.
However, ABC network revealed in a statement to US Weekly on Thursday Jenny would no longer be a part of the program.
“The View will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” executives stated.
Jenny’s departure was rumored for days, and came on the heels of co-host and comedienne Sherri Shepherd announcing she would also be leaving the show.
“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” Sherri earlier told Deadline.com.
“I am extremely grateful to Barbara Walters and Bill Gedde for giving me the opportunity. I look forward to the business opportunities that lay ahead for me and I am incredibly grateful to my View family and my fans for supporting me on this journey.”
It’s unclear what exactly led to the ladies’ departures. However, insiders told US Weekly both felt it was time to move on.
“In Sherri’s case, there were negotiations but they were unable to reach an agreement,” the source said, adding, “Jenny’s departure was the result of a decision to move the show in a different direction creatively.”
The View was already scheduled to go on hiatus next week.
US reports Whoopi remains the show’s only original co-host.
