Matt Damon wants Michael Douglas to win the Emmy for his performance in Behind the Candelabra.
The pair co-star in the US telemovie about the life of the flamboyant singer.
Michael and Matt were both recently nominated in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Movie category for their respective roles as Liberace and his lover, Scott Thorsen.
The Bourne Identity star would rather see Michael take an Emmy home than to win one himself.
“[I want] Michael [to win]. Really. I swear to you!” the actor told Access Hollywood. “I really want him to [win].”
The outlet reports Matt also championed his co-star for beating throat cancer.
Michael announced he had been diagnosed with the disease in 2010 but managed to fight his illness off despite it advancing to Stage IV.
Matt thinks it’s a comeback story that’s worthy of celebrating.
“It’s just such a great story and given his recent years, to come back from [cancer] and to whoop cancer’s a**, and then do that? He should have some kind of trophy, right?!” Matt proclaimed.
The 65th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on Sunday, September 22.
Matt is meanwhile gearing up for the release of his latest film.
Sci-fi drama Elysium is scheduled to hit cinemas later this month.
