Downton Abbey’s Lily James had “breakdowns” when she first joined the show.
The 24-year-old actress plays Lady Rose MacClare in the popular period drama, which also stars Michelle Dockery and Dame Maggie Smith.
Being the new girl among such an established cast was initially difficult for Lily.
“I feel really at home now. At first I was so uptight and having breakdowns,” she admitted to the British edition of OK! magazine.
“It’s a scary thing to be joining a show when it’s so brilliant. On my first day they all hid and jumped out and nearly gave me a heart attack!”
Downton Abbey has famous fans around the globe, including Britain’s Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
Working alongside the show’s big stars has given Lily a lot of valuable experiences.
“[Michelle] is amazing. I don’t know what I’d have done without her. She gives me help and advice and Laura [Carmichael] does too,” she revealed.
“[Dame Maggie Smith] is one of the greatest actresses ever. To be with her on set is a gift. She’s amazing and funny and chilled. [Most of her quips] aren’t scripted. It’s the way she says it or the looks she gives – it’s gold. She has loads of quips off camera too.”
