Leto: You can fondle my Oscar

Jared Leto

Jared Leto invited people to take “selfies” with his award backstage at the Oscars.

The 42-year-old star took home the best supporting actor prize at last night’s ceremony thanks to his portrayal of transgender AIDS sufferer Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club.

He was in high spirits backstage at the Dolby Theatre and even offered onlookers a hold of his golden statue.

“Anyone wanna touch it?” he said, according to parade.condenast.com.

“If you guys want to get a selfie with it, go ahead. Anyone else want to give it a fondle?”

It was a big night for Dallas Buyers Club, with Matthew McConaughey winning the coveted best actor prize for his role as Ron Woodroof. The film is based on the true story of Ron, who began smuggling medication into America when he found he was HIV positive.

Jared took his mother Constance and brother Shannon to the glitzy event and also thanked them in his speech, later explaining they are the most important people in his life.

The actor went through a huge physical transformation to portray Rayon, losing weight and shaving off all his body hair.

“Make-up and hair had a budget of $200. They’d show up at the crack…of dawn and they’d leave at the crack…of dawn,” he said.

The star also discussed his plans for the rest of the evening. The A-list are famed for cutting loose on Oscars night, with parties staged all around Hollywood. Jared was determined to celebrate with the best of them.

“Look me in the eyes. Until the break of day we will revel. The stories they will have to tell,” he laughed.

It was also a big night for movie newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, who took home the best supporting actress statue for her role in 12 Years a Slave. She was completely overwhelmed by the accolade, admitting it will take her a while to accept what’s happened.

“I feel like Willy Wonka in the chocolate factory,” she explained. “Winning hasn’t sunk in. The Oscar is in my hands but I haven’t wrapped my heart around it yet. It doesn’t seem real, but I’m so happy to be holding this golden man.”
