Jared Leto thinks being beautiful is “difficult”.
The 41-year-old star portrays transsexual character Rayon in HIV drama Dallas Buyers Club.
Jared confesses undergoing women’s beauty treatments was tougher than he anticipated.
“There was the loss of 30, 40 pounds, there was the waxing of the body, including the eyebrows,” he detailed to Extra.
“Thank God I didn’t have to do a Brazilian, because it was a period piece. There were the high heels, there were the hours in the makeup chair… I would say almost everything was difficult and challenging about the role, but I loved every single second of it. It takes a village… I did what I had to do to bring Rayon to life.”
Dallas Buyers Club is based on the true story of Ron Woodruff, who is played in the film by Matthew McConaughey.
Ron contracted HIV in the ’80s and smuggled drugs to treat himself into America from Mexico.
Jared has previously opened up about his experience with AIDS when he moved to Los Angeles in 1991.
“I rented a room in a three-bedroom apartment and one of the rooms was rented by a man who was dying [of AIDS],” he told E! Online.
“I was there during his final days. I didn’t remember that until I was in the middle of the film and it hit me. I couldn’t believe I had this experience with this man who was incredibly gentle. It was actually in the first week of filming that I recalled this and it really affected me in a deep way… He was a wonderful person.”
Dallas Buyers Club reaches theaters next month.
