Leighton Meester is the latest star to join Broadway show Of Mice and Men.
The Gossip Girl actress will star alongside James Franco and Irish actor and comedian Chris O’Dowd.
The show will be the 27-year-old actress’ Broadway debut, as well as James and Chris’, and tells the story of two migrant field workers in California during the Great Depression.
This is the first new production of the iconic John Steinbeck novel to be staged in 40 years. It’s being directed by Tony Award winning Anna D. Shapiro.
The play will allow James to tackle a new role, of big dreaming George, a challenge he’s looking forward to.
“As an actor, you are perceived through your roles. People read into you. Everyone thinks I’m a pothead. A lot of people think I’m gay.
“A lot of kids come up to me and say, ‘Wow, your arm grew back.’ So you’re perceived through your characters. You’re perceived through your interviews,” he told Live Talks Los Angeles during a Q&A.
“Leighton and Adam are crazy about each other and have talked about getting married eventually. But she had no idea when he would propose so soon! It was the surprise of her life and she’s ecstatic!” a source told America’s Star magazine.
“Right now their plan is to get married next summer,” an insider said.
Of Mice and Men is set to begin previews March 19 and open April 16 at the Longacre Theatre.
