Kevin Costner finds fame an “amazing thing”.
The 59-year-old actor rose to fame after his role in 1987′s The Untouchables and has since gone on to star in a number of blockbusters. Despite having been in the movie industry for over two decades, Kevin still feels blessed to have found success after viewing it from the outside.
“This fame thing has been an amazing thing in life. I used to take tours – I was the tour bus guide that went to Grauman’s Chinese Theater [a cinema on Hollywood Walk of Fame]. I’d watched 60 people spill out of the bus and put their hands in the fingerprints and feet… and my feet and hands are there now,” he smiled to Total Film magazine. “So how the mystery of life plays out is one thing, but how everyday life plays out, it’s just like it is for everybody.”
Alongside his acting career he also has his band Kevin Costner & Modern West and an oil spill clean-up company with his brother.
Although he is grateful for the success his films have brought him, the star gives equal focus to his other ventures and prioritizes his family. Kevin has three grown-up children with ex-wife Cindy Silva and a teenage son, Liam, with former girlfriend Bridget Rooney. He and his current wife Christine Baumgartner have seven-year-old son Cayden, five-year-old Hayes and three-year-old Grace.
“I just work at things, and I work at trying to make the movies I do. I work at the music I like. I work with my kids so they came become the best kids they can become. I’m like a turtle. I keep going,” he laughed. “I probably should have made Bodyguard 2 and The Bodyguard 3. Then I go a little bit more, and I’m like, ‘Man, you should have made Dances with Wolves: The Early Years and Dances: The Earlier Years. Man, you could have made another Robin Hood. It would have been really easy.’ But life to me is more important than the movies.”
