Kerry Washington has had a “pretty thrilling” year.
The actress attended the 2013 Television Critics Association’s Summer Press Tour party at The Beverly Hilton Hotel yesterday.
Kerry discussed the monumental last few months of her life, which have included getting married and landing an Emmy nomination for her role as Olivia Pope in Scandal.
“It’s been pretty thrilling,” Kerry told PopSugar. “It’s been a crazy couple of months. The Emmy nominations came out on the morning of our very first table read [for new season of Scandal] and we all got to be together to celebrate and I got the chance to say to all the people involved that this Emmy nomination belongs to all of us. We are constantly trying to feed off each other and reflect off each other’s talent. This feels like one for the whole team.”
Kerry attended the event with her Scandal co-stars Bellamy Young and Tony Goldwyn. The trio spoke about how Scandal has become a modern phenomenon, with fans interacting on Twitter. Kerry says the cast meet up to have a party where they watch the show themselves.
“Thank god for our fans and yeah, the writing is amazing. It’s like a ritual [to get together and watch the shows]. We cheer each other on,” Kerry added. “I guess that’s what’s so cool. I don’t know if we expected the fans to love the show as much as they do, but we love the show that much, and feel so lucky we get to say these words. It’s kind of great that we are in the same camp as them. When I watch these two do a scene I’m like [inhales breath] I see I have the same reaction as fans on Twitter.”
