Kerry Washington can’t wait to hang out with Mindy Kaling at the 2014 Emmy Awards.
The glitzy annual awards ceremony, which honors those working in TV, takes place on August 25 and will see a whole host of A-list stars take to the red carpet.
Kerry is particularly excited for the event as it means she gets to see a lot of her friends all at once.
“We’re all so busy that a lot of times, these award shows are the only time you get to see people you really adore,” Kerry gushed to People magazine. “Like my friend Mindy Kaling – I love her so much, but I feel like the only time we get to hang out is at award shows!”
As well as counting down the days until she can rendezvous with old friends, Kerry is also preparing for a possible Emmy win.
The 37-year-old actress is up for best actress for her role as Olivia Pope in hit show Scandal for the second time, and should she win she’ll be the first African American actress to take the prize home.
“It’s a bit more surreal because I can’t believe it’s happened two years in a row. It’s awesome for the show,” she smiled.
As well as a glittering acting career, which has included roles in box office smash hits Django Unchained and The Last King of Scotland, Kerry is also a proud first time mom. She and her husband Nnamdi Asomugha welcomed daughter Isabelle in April and Kerry has never felt happier.
“I know how extraordinary my life is right now and how amazing the opportunities I have are. I’m very grateful and feel very, very blessed,” she beamed.
