Keira Knightley would be “150 million trillion per cent totally discouraging” if her teenage daughter wanted to act.
The 29-year-old star is married to The Klaxons star James Righton and although they don’t have children at the moment, she has thought about how she’d want to raise them. Keira has starred in major movies such as some of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise and The Duchess, but doesn’t think starting out early in her profession is the right move.
“Oh, 100 per cent, I’d absolutely tell her not to. I would 150 million trillion per cent be totally discouraging,” she told British magazine Elle when asked if she’d let her daughter act. “Teenage years should be done privately. You should be going out and getting unbelievably drunk, getting into ridiculous situations, making mistakes. That’s what that time of life is about and we should do that privately.”
Keira knows what she’s talking about as she began her career when she was young, appearing in movies such as 2002’s Bend It Like Beckham. She has no regrets about that, but did find certain aspects of being in the limelight as a teenager difficult. Mostly she had trouble with the intense criticism she received, especially when it came to her figure. The star is naturally slight and constantly battled rumors she was suffering from an eating disorder, eventually winning a lawsuit connected to the claims.
“Saying that, I don’t regret it – I wouldn’t do my life any differently, but having lived through it… There was a very long time when [interviewers] were all, ‘Well you’re a sh*t actress and you’re anorexic and people hate you,’ which, for a teenager is a very strange thing,” she explained.
Keira also debuts her previously-unseen second wedding dress in the piece, a Valentino number which was created especially for her.
