Kanye West knows he isn’t supposed to say he’s a “creative genius” but insists he is.
The hip-hop star slammed talk show host Jimmy Kimmel on Twitter last week, after he spoofed an interview Kanye had given to a UK radio station.
Last night he appeared on Jimmy’s program, where he didn’t apologize for his tweets but did attempt to explain why he was annoyed.
“I’ve never done a publicity stunt in my life,” the rapper insisted.
“I’m a creative genius, and there’s no other way to word it. I know you’re not supposed to say that about yourself. I say things the wrong way a lot of times, but the intention is always positive.”
The 36-year-old explained he is still proud of his Radio 1 interview, during which he claimed he is the world’s only true rock star, is breaking through the “glass ceiling” and invented leather jogging pants.
“I’m not running for office. I’m just here to make good music and make people feel good when they hear my music. When I did that interview, I was really vocal about a lot of things I had been dealing with over the last ten years, when I had been put in the classification as just a celebrity,” he explained.
Jimmy admitted he was taken aback by Kanye’s Twitter comments, which were laced with profanity and poked fun at the way he looks. The two men have been on friendly terms in private, with Jimmy even defending Kanye to those who have mocked his over-the-top behavior.
The rapper explained that was the real reason why he was so upset. “This is the one person I know!” he explained, adding that was why he got so angry.
Although their talk was pretty good natured, Kanye did seem irritated at several points.
“I don’t know if you know this – a lot of people think you’re a jerk,” Jimmy offered, which was met by a cold stare by the hip-hop superstar.
