Kanye West is rumored to have masterminded the Kardashian’s Christmas card.
The annual card shunned the traditional seasonal surroundings the family usually favour, instead choosing a futuristic fantasy scene.
But sources claim top photographers Annie Leibovitz and Mario Testino turned the job down before it eventually went to David LaChapelle.
“It turns out that Kanye was the puppet master behind the photo shoot, as he provided art direction, sketches, and costume and make-up ideas,” a source told Radar.
“Annie tried to play hardball with Kanye over the money, but the production had to stick to their budget. Ultimately, Annie and Kanye fell out of negotiations. David was, at best, the third choice and one dictated more by budget than Kanye’s much-vaunted ‘vision’,” the source added.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians production company are reported to have footed the $250,000 bill as the story about the shoot became a major part of the family’s holiday special which E! recently aired.
David LaChapelle decided to focus on the Kardashian women, and Kanye was noticeably absent from the shoot except for a magazine cover that features his face. Kim and Kanye’s daughter North was also left off the card, but Kim’s stepfather Bruce Jenner did make an appearance.
“LaChapelle also didn’t want Bruce Jenner to be on the card, but after the former decathlete had a meltdown, he was included,” Radar reported.
Filled with symbols, secret messages and evocative imagery, the card was a shock to many Kardashian fans with some even saying there’s also messages about the Illuminati in there too. The secret society often uses eye and triangle symbols, which could clear be seen in the shot behind Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
Kanye and Kim made it into Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People of 2013 shortlist, but lost out on the crown to Hillary Clinton.
