Jessie J was almost left in wheelchair after an accident two years ago.
The British singer broke her left foot while rehearsing for a tour in June 2011, forcing her to have surgery and pull out of performances. She was in an orthopedic boot for months after the accident and has now discussed how serious the incident was.
“That accident almost cost me the ability to walk!” she is quoted as saying by British newspaper The Sun. “I’ve had a bone transplant, a fusion, a metal plate and four bolts put into my foot.”
Jessie wore the protective foot covering for around four months. Although her break has healed, her limb still causes her problems and will never be the same again.
“I have a physio who travels around with me a lot of the time and it still causes me pain every day,” she explained. “I often have to have my foot popped back in as it pops off the bone.”
The 25-year-old singer suffered that exact problem in April, posting a picture of her having her foot “popped” back in on Twitter.
The injury has also caused Jessie some style problems as she can no longer wear high heels. She believes that is a small price to pay though and has invested in some funky flats so she still feels fashionable.
“I will always suffer from arthritis in my ankle. It really hurts. It will be something I have to live with forever. So I will never make that full recovery,” she previously explained.
“I won’t be able to wear heels again. But I’ll have some bad-boy Skechers blinged up for me. At least I’m alive, and I can sing. I can’t wait to get back on stage.”
When she first came home after the injury, the star’s mother had to move in with her as she needed so much help. She was given painkillers to numb her discomfort but decided against taking them as she was nervous about becoming addicted.
