Jake Gyllenhaal was reportedly hospitalized after punching a mirror on the set of his new movie.
The 32-year-old actor is shooting Nightcrawler in Los Angeles and has supposedly been “starving himself” for his role as a crime reporter.
According to People.com, Jake “flipped out” during a scene, punching a mirror and slicing his hand. He was then transported to a local emergency room, where he was allegedly treated with stitches and released.
“Jake flipped out. His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital,” a source confirmed.
The insider insisted the actor wasn’t simply having a hotheaded moment. Jake was reportedly living in the moment of an intense scene and was feeling spent after an 18-hour day.
“The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him. It was all the scene and not because he was mad about anything else,” the source said.
Jake is said to have returned to set later the same day.
A spokesperson for the actor has yet to issue comment.
