Hugh Jackman tried to talk himself out of proposing to his wife right after they met.
The Wolverine star met Deborra-Lee Furness on the set of 1995 Australian television series Correlli and was immediately smitten.
The couple married the following year but Hugh admits he was initially hesitant to pop the question because everything was happening so fast.
“I decided, I won’t ask her to marry me for six months,” he says in the October issue of Town and Country magazine. “Then after four months I thought, that’s the most ridiculous rule!”
Seventeen years later the couple is still going strong with one of the longest-lasting unions in Hollywood.
They now share two children, Oscar and Ava, and Deborra-Lee, who sat down for the interview with Hugh, said she couldn’t be happier.
“It gets better every year,” she gushed. “And here we are, 18 years. Is it 18?”
The actress, director and producer does have a very small grievance with her husband, however.
She prefers him without the scruffy beard he’s forced to don to play his famous superhero character.
“I like him clean-shaven,” she confessed, musing, “But I like him all ways: chubby, muscley, skinny. I’m always having affairs.”
The 57-year-old blonde may have to deal with the beard a little bit longer. Hugh is set to reprise his role as Wolverine in next year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
