Idris wants a Girls cameo

Idris Elba

Idris Elba has begged to appear in Girls.

The actor is best known for serious roles, such as drug dealer Stringer Bell in cult TV show The Wire and late political figure Nelson Mandela in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

He’s now hinted he is ready for something a little more light-hearted by reaching out to Girls creator Lena Dunham via Twitter.

“@lenadunham Very funny woman. Can I come do a scene on your show?…i promise, NO selfies…:) (sic),” he wrote.

The hunky actor and comedy actress recently appeared on The Graham Norton Show on UK TV and it appears they have struck up a friendship.

Lena was quick to reply to Idris, although Girls fans will be disappointed to hear she was noncommittal about his request.

“@idriselba You are a pure pleasure, an honor to share the couch with you #selfiesforever,” she wrote.

“PS thank you for calling me a woman, it made me feel all tingly inside <3 (sic)."

After the show aired Idris’ fans flocked to Lena’s Twitter page to say how lucky she was to get to sit next to him on the program’s sofa.

“Idris smells great but I had the restraint not to say it on television (only on twitter),” she replied to one admirer who quizzed her on the actor’s personal habits.

If the British star’s cameo goes ahead he’ll be the latest in a string of stars to pop up on the show, including most recently Richard E. Grant.

The third series of the program about the lives and loves of four twenty-something women in New York City recently hit screens. There has been speculation that fashion designer Victoria Beckham might pop up in one episode following reports she loves the show, but Lena has denied the claims.

“Victoria Beckham mentioned she loved the show in an interview and this has been metastasized into ‘Victoria Beckham is the fifth Girl’,” Lena explained. “We love Victoria Beckham but she’s a little chic for us.”
