Josh Hutcherson says killing people is “not his forte”.
The actor is promoting The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, in which he reprises his role as Peeta Mellark. The films center on a televised fight to the death involving young adults, and in real life Josh isn’t sure how well he would fare.
“I love being outside. I love camping and hiking, so that side of the games I felt very comfortable with. Killing people? Not my forte,” he laughed to British magazine Heat.
Josh spent hours in the gym before shooting the first installment of the franchise, which hit screens in 2012.
This time around he took a more relaxed approach, although on set he had to hit the ground running.
“For me if wasn’t so hardcore, no,” he said. “In the first one, I definitely did a lot more training and then I just coasted in the second one. I probably shouldn’t say that. Once we got on set and started working; that was the training. It was pretty intense, you know – a lot of ins and outs and ups and downs.”
Peeta is involved in a relationship of sorts with Katniss Everdeen, portrayed by Jennifer Lawrence. While Josh is similar to his character in some ways, he hopes he knows how to take love hints a bit better.
“I think he needs to learn to let things go when they’re not working, and learn to take the hint when someone is not interested in you,” he said.
